I have been using a guide for separating my system and data partition for Windows 7.
The guide can be found here.

Everything works well except an issue with symbolic links. They still point to the original drive (drive C:)

Is it at all possible to move the links such that they point to a new drive.

example Favourites uses to point towards C:
is it possible at all to move the symlink to point towards d: ?

if you right click on the items under Favourites and select Properties, it shows you to which directory it is pointing. You should be able to just change it there.

I am guessing Favourites itself is "hardcoded" in a place. maybe changeable if you edit the registry. but that really shouldn't be necessary if you do the above.

Thanks milomak.

I found a solution in Robocopy and It help me with the process quite a bit.
My system partition and data partition where the users profile reside are now separate.
