Hi all

So we currently have LTE at home capped at 10gigs.
Our contract is cancelled and we planning on getting ADSL .
Telkom has a deal a 4mb line uncapped at 599
This is appelaing as we dont have a telephone line, and the whole shebang of whatever else we might need.
Is this a decent package? we wont be doing anything hectic like mostly instagram, streaming and the odd updates on phones
Please advise thanks guys

We also dont have fibre in our area
And would a month to month deal be more expensive?

If you're planning on ADSL you need a landline so budget for that.

Take note that there is no router with the month-2-month option, so something you will have to buy and also, if available, go for 10mbps, as it will be better for streaming. Most of us go for capped accounts. I currently have a WA 150GB + 1TB after hour business capped account and it's enough for my streaming and gaming needs + the other downloads.

Exactly this. I pay something like R800/month all-in, between WebAfrica and Telkom, and it is more than enough for normal use. That might seem like a lot, until you factor in what movies in cinemas and DSTV costs. Get a decent internet connection and you can slash a lot of those costs (fully legally). Another nice part of a landline is the free Telkom-to-Telkom landline calls (I'm on the Weekender Plus package iirc), so I save stacks just phoning my mom.

I recommend you go month-to-month. Telkom can be slow in their cancellations and relocations of connections, so I personally wouldn't be stuck paying for a two year contract just to get a free modem (which you could get off Gumtree super cheap if you don't mind secondhand).

Contrary to the advice above, I recommend you DO get your ADSL line from Telkom. It is my understanding that Telkom owns ALL last-mile copper connections, so when you go through a service provider like WebAfrica they then have to put in an application for Telkom to release the line to them, and Telkom then insists that they release the line again before they can cancel the line. There is no benefit in speed or cost or whatever, it's the exact same line. The theory is that Webafrica might be a bit more efficient at fault-logging than Telkom, but the truth is that if your ADSL line is good then you're never going to have a fault on it.

I've had a 10Mbps through Telkom, then in another apartment through WebAfrica, then again now through Telkom, and I had no problem through Telkom. In fact, in my latest apartment I got a *fresh* ADSL and landline installation done within a week of logging the request at Telkom, which was super-impressive. Telkom used to have a promo where you could do month-to-month and still get the free router (which is how I did it), but in my latest apartment I at least had the router and the installation was free because I was getting a Telkom landline too.

So maybe that helps convince you to go to Telkom, it's what I'd do. You know it'll be painful to deal with them, but chances are you won't have to and you can just enjoy your spiffy internet connection real soon. :)

Don't take the offers from other ISP's. Take month to month telkom. Buy cheap modem and you get an integrated sim too for free.

Never ever move your adsl line from Telkom to another ISP.
