The Mozilla Corporation have today uploaded the follow-up to their hugely popular web browser, Firefox. Despite not being featured on the Firefox homepage the files have all been uploaded to the Mozilla FTP site.

This updated version is designated for release tomorrow, but avid Firefox users can get their hands on it now.

Download: Firefox 2.0 from the Mozilla FTP
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0/

Bookmarks

Just downloaded and installed Firefox 2.0. Anyone know where my bookmarks have gone or how I can get them back / import them?

Look for something like C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\???????.default for bookmarks.bak, and delete bookmarks.html and rename the bak file

dang.. i thought this was the final release. is it the Firefox 2 Release Candidate 3 (RC 3) ?.. I think i'llwait a bit more for the final version?

bah I just installed it.. I am not liking it .. then again my version looks exactly the same as the one i had except some of my extensions are no longer working and others don't work cause firefox does what it use to ;)

Thanks for the suggestion Noswal. A couple of other features did not seem to work either, so I took the easy route and bailed :D - went back to previous version. Will wait for final release.

but it is the final release, is it not?

edit: oh, and my bookmarks and other settings are all fine too, except for an extension or two that's not compatible with 2.0

Spelling

For my spell checker I have normally used Spellbound, but version 2.0 of Firefox comes with a Spell Checker by default. :)

Oh, and I see they've copied Opera with having tabs!! Wow!

Seriously though.. FF2 is nice, the interface is just better, mu ch more modern but they havent tried to change things much that might upset people.. I see they have managed to do that anyway, im sure most people will prefer the new interface though.

It often comes up on their FTP servers before its realy released. its generally a good idea to wait the extra day for it really to be released.

Like that blog says, it kills the FTP server before they are ready.

I was very impressed by the version upgrade.
The new default theme looks great, spell checker excellent add on and many other improvements.

Mozilla is really representing the web...

 N7.1
