Don't really know why, but its now become very important to me that my .mp3 collection has all the correct album artwork.

The problem is
a) Itunes needs an account to retrieve the artwork, can't find any voucher codes to enable an account.
b) Amarok is not finding the aforementioned artwork.
c) The only program that I found that does what i want is Tunesleeves, but i'm not convinced it's worth the money.
d) I dont have the patience to do it manually.

Any suggestions?

Try MediaMonkey

See if you can get Mediamonkey.

It gives you the option to include the album art as either embedded in the mp3, or as a JPG file in the directory where the mp3 album is.
It also provides an exportable library and the pro version allows you to convert many different formats to other formats.
Pro is not free though.

I have my music categorised by \album artist\album\{track#}-{artist}-{title} with embedded Album Art & lyrics (I use Minilyrics to download and embed the lyrics.)

Unfortunately both are only available on the Microsoft platform.
