Strange problem experienced by a mate of mine who owns a little JNC 1GB mp3 player.

Basically, when you plug it in, it reports two drives, under Drive Management it sees both of seperate drives (as opposed to 2 partitions on one drive). When you try play a song on the mp3 player, it only sees the smaller first partition not the other.

Under system settings (on the mp3 player) there is an option for single / multi-drive. When single drive is selected it only sees the smaller partition when its inserted into the PC.

Anyone had any experience with this? How do I go about forcing it into a single partition?

Some flash memory can be partitioned into two areas i.e one public and another that is "secure" by means of a password.

It seems that the player got it's brains a bit scrambled ... a low level format is required.

Any idea how to do that? I've got Hiren's boot CD which gives me quite a few disk/partition options but I'm not sure about USB support. Especially for some wonky MP3 player :)
