Whats the best value for money MP3 player to buy these days? I've looked at the iPod 8GB - R1499, but I see there is also a Telefunken MP3 Player (only 2 or 4GBs though) for only R399? Is there a big difference in quality between these. Both play MP3s, videos etc.
I want something that has good/excellent quality sound and volume - I dont mind if its less storage space.

Can anyone advise?

Cheers

Another alternative is the Sansa Fuze. The 8GB model costs about R1 100 from places like Loot or Kalahari.

Pros: You can add a micro SD card to expand the Capacity. It can play a wider range of formats than the iPod, including flac. The sound quality is significantly better than the iPod, to the point that I hardly touch my iPod collection anymore. This advantage is only applicable if you use decent headphones rather than the cheap ones that are provided.

Cons: The user interface and controls are definitely inferior to the iPod - less ergonomic and not nearly as nice looking.

Also it does not use iTunes - dragging and dropping folders is the best way to load music. If this is a pro or con is up to your personal preference.

Overall this is a good player if you want sound quality and are prepared to put up with the rough edges.

I terms of sound quality it is important to have a good quality set of earphones.

I currently have a set of Philips in-ear headphones which works extremely well with my old sansa Mp3 player.
