EXECUTIVES and directors of the Nuclear Energy Corporation of SA (Necsa) were humiliated in Parliament on Thursday and ordered to leave the portfolio committee on energy for being unable to present the company’s annual report and financial statements.

Necsa, which hopes to lead SA’s nuclear expansion, should have finalised its reports by the end of last month.

The ejection of the team, which travelled from Pretoria, again highlighted the mess at Necsa. African National Congress (ANC) MPs suspect serious financial and governance irregularities and there are also clear leadership problems. The board has collapsed and the CEO’s contract is being renewed monthly. There are also tensions within the ANC over who should lead the nuclear programme.

Necsa are the clowns who are supposed to bring in the nuclear energy expansion to South Africa. The more I read about this, the more I fear that Medupi and Kusile might pale into insignificance in time overruns and money wasted.

You don't need to fear it, it will be the case if we go Nuclear with the current bunch at the helm.

At the rate of Medupi and Kusile nuclear will probably be completed in 30 years time in which it will be too late
and the coffers will be well LOOTED.

Was Parliament not surprised when this happened.
CADRE deployment = USELESS.

It also seems that everything Government gets involvedin turns to CRAP.
14.6 Billion rand loss at Petro Sa.
Waiting for another bailout.

Seems of late, trusted Number One allies, are being ruffled up, by the ruling party. AG report slamming the Energy Dept, especially old Tina,...than there was old faithful, Faith Muthambi...being reprimanded for her press release on the STB fiasco.. is there a political strategy at work, to start dismantling his key political supporters?

Almost. But unfortunately probably not quite actual accountability. Where those responsible get fired (not suspended on full pay and then redeployed) and criminally charged if there was indeed corruption. Maybe there's a need to replace the Necsa exec with some hand-picked, Russian-friendly cadres?

As for the board of PetroSA, they should be publicly stoned by the taxpayers of South Africa. The scale of wastage and mismanagement there is as best criminally incompetent and hard to believe that it doesn't also involve massive corruption.

Absolutely disgusting.

NECSA run Palindaba and produce medical isotopes like Moly99. Koeberg and any new proposed nukes have nothing to do with them. It doesn't auger well for the isotope business though.

Thanks for enlightening me :o Who then are the responsible crew for Koeberg? Does this also rest with Nersa?

NNR. They're the umbrella body for ensuring nuclear safety and oversee Eskom, NECSA and the FRD as well as nuclear medicine and radiotherapy etc. I've had dealings with the NNR and they weren''t confidence inspiring and this was before "transformation".

To be fair, the BDlive article does say "Necsa, which hopes to lead SA’s nuclear expansion,...". Maybe a misunderstanding by the reporter or maybe worse: she understood correctly and that is indeed their plan!
