Hi Everyone,

I got nailed for doing 81 in a 60 zone in Warburton in Mpumalanga to the painful tune of R1000... If my research serves me correctly that infringement should be to a maximum of R750 or am i wrong?

Secondly i cannot find the notice number on any of the online services, the traffic officer advised that i must write a letter, yes physically write a letter and post to the address on the notice for a reduction... I cannot trust such an archaic practice i mean come on not even an email address?

Would i be able to visit the traffic dpt in pmb to get it sorted?

Anyway i know i was wrong and have no issue paying the fine if the law says it should be 1k then i'll bite the bullet and pay.

Your research is likely based on AARTO where the fines are fixed. Municipalities which aren't under the AARTO system can make their own fines AFAIK. Also note that the archaic practice is also because it's not under AARTO.

You will have to resolve it with the local municipality where the infringement took place so often easier (and cheaper) to just pay up than to have to take the drive back up there. If you want (I'm not advocating this at all but it is the norm), you could just go ahead and ignore it because it's just as much effort for them to chase up on a relatively small sum as it is for you to fight it.

You can also "negotiate" for a lower fine, I am pretty sure you won't pay that much unless you decide to pay without complaining about it... complaining in this case mean politely requesting them to have mercy.

Yes thats the way for fine reductions, to write a letter. I did that for a fine that I've got outside of my local municipality in western Cape and was successfully reduced. Just wait for the snail mail lol. I do not know about the fine amount though or what it should be
