Hello everyone!
My parents were recent victims of a peculiar worm, if you will. It first started when my mother received a few pictures from one of her friends (so she says) and in the span of about 1 hour she received an unidentified SMS on her Samsung cellphone. She was unable to open it and phoned me straight away (family regards me as the computer related wizard as I'm currently doing my honours in IT) as she was slightly concerned about it.
I told her to perhaps go to a Vodacom repair shop and ask for some service about this SMS. Within another hour she phoned me again saying she fixed it and how happy she is blah blah blah (you know how mothers get). The next day she phones me in tears sayings its back, but this time in her sent box. The story carries on for a few days with her not going to Vodacom
Eventually she receives an SMS with a message of being a winner of a yearly Nokia competition. Contact details were provided, namely Mr Victor and his cellphone number (dont think I should add it here). So in this story my mother has some type of worm on her cellphone with a clearly fake SMS for being a winner of a competition she doesn't know anything about and a person named Mr Victor.
So here is where the fun started for me! I phone this Mr Victor and ask him about the competition I won. He was unable to get any information about myself, but I managed to get some information about him: Mr. R Victor from Witbank with a bank account at ABSA.
Look out for this scam friends!
