So, who went to the JHB DevDays, and what did you think...

Being an Information Systems student (i.e. not a programmer, more of an analyst) I found some of the sessions very intimidating (Core .net 4.0 functionality went way over the top of my head). Found the intro to Sliverlight development really interesting though. And the Windows 7 Phone development stuff was also quite interesting (not that I agree with where MS is taking the WinMo platform, but that is another topic for another day).

Somre pretty impressive stuff coming out of MS these days.

What were your thoughts?

Was there too!

Also a student, so agree with some of the stuff flying over my head :p

But yeah, enjoyed silverlight too! Looks like quite a capable plugin (if that's the right word).

Didn't stay until the end though, had to leave about 3ish.

Only thing I didn't enjoy were those "beef" burgers they served for lunch...

The problem with Dev Days was the topics covered - you can easily read up on all of them on the internet or some MVP blogs... I guess for students it would've been worth it, but for professionals, umm...

Maybe if they brought over some international speakers from the Developer Division I'd be more interested.

It's great to get feedback on DevDays (both positive and negative) and I'd like to get more. I've posted in another thread on DevDays 2010 and I'd really like to get your input for how we can run a better event (I work for Microsoft and our team runs developer events throughout the country including DevDays).

We did have two international from Redmond at DevDays this year and they delivered excellent sessions - ask anyone who attended Bart De Smet and Brian Keller's sessions. These guys really know their stuff! I agree, it would be great to have guys from the Developer Division come out here (and believe me we do try!) but I know these guys did a fantastic job.

I'd love to hear from you to find out who you'd like to see and what content you'd like to see at future events. I want to make sure that we're doing the right things for our community and make our events the best they can be.
