I had my MS Exchange account added to my phone today (Samsung Galaxy Ace), primarily to keep my Outlook calendar synced with my phone. Obviously by default the email is also synced.

After the initial sync took place and the email headers and calendar items downloaded to my phone, I kept checking my data usage for the next hour. Within less than an hour it had used 2MB of data (this was after/excluding the initial sync). During this time I only received one email (text only and the phone was set to only download the first 2kB). The sync setting was set to Push.

Note that this 2MB was only the data consumed by my Exchange sync in the space of one hour. My Gmail has used 3.3MB over the course of 2 weeks and that is hundreds of emails, as opposed to the one received via exchange. Surely this can not be normal? I switched the sync period to once per hour and now it is ok (used a few KB for the rest of the day), but surely if push is active it should only really transfer data when an email or calendar item needs to be pushed to my phone.

Can anybody confirm if they also experience such high data usage? I'm using Radio Opt Traffic Monitor to track the data usage.

Maybe give it a day or 2 to completely finish updating. You also said the email to only download headers which should decrease your bandwidth usage.

Well I did change it to download only headers but that didnt really change anything as far as data usage is concerned. It's also set to only sync the last 3 days' mail, which at the moment is only 5 emails.

I think I will leave it on when I am connected to Wi-Fi at home over the weekend and see what happens. Would still like to know other peoples experiences with it please.
