I have a problem connecting to the corporate ms exchange via a vpn client on the adsl line, internet and other applications work, its only the ms outlook that does not work, i am able to ping the mail server.

any susgestions

is it a total connection failure, or just send or recieve. If just sending, you need to check the box with a line similar to "my server requires authentication" and then "use same settings as incoming".

Just another possible thing to check is on the vpn connection, check if it works when you have the "use remote gateway" checked or unchecked

That's a lotta checks right there. :)

i wouldnt say it is a total connection failure, because i can ping the exchange server and do get a reply. when i try and sign on to the ms outlook client, it does not connect, if i delete the connection and recreate it, it does not authenticate my details. the same connection works fine on dialup.

Are you dialing up to a fixed ip (corporate dial up server or a IS fixed dialup service for example)?

i am king use of nortel contivity vpn client, it has options to set the DNS, WINS and Domain name, it does not have the option to set "use remote gateway"

yes the same connection works with dialup, the vpn client authenticates on adsl, and other apps work fine also, just the ms outlook.

when we dial in we are assigned an ip from a range.
