KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that databases and database servers are backed up
- Understand and implement database recoveries
- Resolve database problems within service delivery requirements
- Implement database table locking strategy
- Setup and version upgrades of databases and database servers
- Grant access to databases with relevant permissions
- Implement transaction log strategy
- Space management of databases and database servers
- Monitor database server availability
- Performance and Tuning of database servers.
- Stop and start database servers as part of problem resolution
- Check and fix inconsistencies of database internal linking pointers
- Setup and monitor Index rebuilds on databases
- Transfer table data from one database to another
- Resolve problems on database loads
- Assist developers with query tuning and setup of test databases
- Required to be on standby as necessary
- Assist with basic training on relevant database procedures of staff members who do technical or application support
- Identify possible risks and implement proactive measures as well as suggest improvements
- Keep abreast with database technology in order to be able to give advice
