The exchange also gets MSAN/ISAM in the exchange , it is all about the transition to IP switching and shortening the copper loop.Correct me if i'm wrong, but the exchange itself does not get upgraded. The MSAN is a field unit that is installed on strategic spots (ye right) to provide shorter last end terminations. Theoretically the MSAN can enable 20/40Mb.s lines.

Obviously the subscribers close to the exchange would not need a street MSAN/ISAM .
Analogue switching is out dated hens the IP switching change.

In theory they should phone you or leave an automated message informing you of the upgrade. How do you know when an MSAN is activated and VDSL is available to you? I'm guessing they don't knock on your door and let you know. I ask because there is an MSAN near my house that had some techies working on it for a while, but is now being left alone.
