Hi there...
Is anyone has problems with msn,irc or skype?Mirc it just disconecting me all the time, msn doesnt even want to sign in,and skype i cannot call anyone ...
Please reply...

ok skype is p2p and therefor you need to go on the 9GB package or you use tunnels or socks proxies.

msn and irc, is different for everyone at the moment and I am investigating the reasons out of my own personal interest so I don't want to divulge all I know here but try this.

disconnect and reconnect to iburst, AS YOU CONNECT log on MSN or IRC (or you could try both at the same time), it must be as you connect, that connection should maintain as usual, and you wont get dropped. I know it sounds questionable, but try it.

if after you connect, say an hour after if you log off msn then log back on that connection will probably get dropped

yeah as i said its not affecting everyone, nothing with wireless ever does

Hi Makedon,

I believe you mentioned in an earlier post that you connect to the Northcliff tower, so do I and I spoke on Skype on Wednesday (the big disconnection day :-)) night for 2 hours without major problems though at times the connection dropped and by the end of the 2 hours it dropped. MSN has been behaving well the past week, though at times while still connected my chat partners are receiving my replies with 5-minute delays.

I have 2 GB left of my 3 GB account. Speeds have slowed down since Wednesday though - I will check the connection tonight and let you know.

I also experience disconnections on irc on average 6-10 times per DAY.....In the pre launch period it was 3 or 4 times per WEEK. I have had iburst since January and I must say the service is getting worse. It is becoming like Sentech.....the cake is getting cut into too many pieces.Instead of getting a bigger cake they make us eat the crumbs.

Well Fairlady give me some speed tests you are getting on your iBurst....I can only get max of 250kbps internationally and 500kbps nationally...and i cant talk on skype because its really bad and IRC and MSN disconecting me every 5 minutes or so...
Thanks for your reply!

hi i noticed some games have not wanted to join servers over the past few days...fixed this by using the ethernet cable instead of usb give it a try if you are using usb

Hi Makedon,

No disocnnections here tonight. Can't test Skype - no buddies online. Btw, I am in Linden Ext.

There are the test results:

Stanford University ITSS Web100 based Network Diagnostic Tester (NDT)
TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.2.1e
click START to begin
Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done
running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 91.15Kb/s
running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 147.43kb/s
Your PC is connected to a Cable/DSL modem

Telkom Local Speed Test (HTTP)
Download time: 8.873 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 459.8 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 56.4 (kiloBytes/second)

ADSLGuide UK Speed Test
Direction Actual Speed True Speed (estimated)

Downstream 286 Kbps (35.8 KB/sec) 308 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 170 Kbps (21.3 KB/sec) 183 Kbps (inc. overheads)

These speeds are better than yesterday's and way better than what I am used to having in the past 4 months.

Correction .. my MSN also disconnects (that's a new one). I noticed a pattern though - the moment I quit Skype, MSN reconnects.

Hi halicon,

I have 1.94 GB left in my account - definately not capped.

XP Pro, SP2, laptop modem. I also notice that the signal strength (in Linden Ext - I live 5 km on a straight line from the Northcliff tower) has deteriorated in the past week (averages 80, 70% at the moment).

MSN is dropping the connection every 5-10 minutes. It's really the first time I am experiencing this.

Cheers -

with iburst it could be anything... a while back i was getting frame error rates. i spoke to luis from iburst who told me it was my fault. i tried all kinds of weird and wonderful things with my modem (er... that sounds weird) and yeah when the speeds came on the problem resolved itself. i have noticed msn never logs on in the first try. always the second.

what version of msn are you running?
