Hey I've tried looking for a question like this on the forum but found nothing...

I was wondering how MSN messenger works on ADSL, are the servers we connect to on MSN local or international? I was wondering how MSN would run after you've reached the cap? Does it connect and are you able to chat, or is it unusable?

Thanks

This should be the same whether on iBurst or ADSL:

netstat -a showed a connection established to:
baym-cs293.msgr.hotmail.com

So tracert baym-cs293.msgr.hotmail.com definitely shows a route to that host outside of SA.

Not conclusive proof, bcos MsnMsngr could use several connections to do parts of what it does, but I think it is more than likely completely international.

I have found over more than a year that msn messenger does not at all work on a capped adsl account - however - yahoo messenger works - a bit slow to log in - but it works for text conversations - does not work for video or voice chat when capped though

It does not work on a capped account, I've tried. However saying that, msn messenger in normal text/games/audio do not take up alot of bandwidth unlike games or online radio.

Works fine with My-limitedto4kinternationalBW-wireless.. guess everything has its disadv+adv :)
