MSN Messenger

have a look at mxit. all phones with java support can use it. it has a MSN gateway (can chat with MSN users). oh, and it is free!

the service was great in the beginning, but they have been having problems for the past few months. they have been "busy with hardware upgrades which will improve the service" for a few months as well... maybe they will complete it someday.
 
AFAIK all the Windows mobile phones come with MSN msgr, but there are quite a few java and symbian based apps that will work on just about any phone. ATM im using the symbian version of AgileMessenger and it works great!
