There seems to be a general contention that our news reporting sucks. IOL can't even spell the headlines correctly and the Sun likes to get as many facts as humanly possible dead wrong.
Now, it seems, there is a new contender.
MSNBC.com, the website owned by some conniving bastards, has taken off its kid gloves.
Take a peek at this...
MSNBC

That is a lot.
10 000/300 000 000
= 1 in 30 000
When you go further down you find the figures they believe are correct.
There's just some stupidity. Bum facts in an MSNBC article? Not a good sign.
Now check this out...
WHO figures

That is a bit different. 10 582/6.7 billion
That's 1 in 633 150.

Accidents on this level are not supposed to happen. MSNBC is a news site owned by major news provider NBC who is in turn owned by a Fortune 100 company and a trusted news source for millions of people.
Personally I think it's pure scaremongering. One of the top articles listed on google news and it's facts are horribly wrong.
General Electric
As some of you may or may not know, General Electric owns MSNBC.
And if their scaremongering tactics weren't outrageous enough, this might be...

American Centers for Disease Control has chosen General Electric to provide updates on swine flu activity for the government.
And don't forget about GE's giant Healthcare division.
The monitor for swine flu activity in America just happens to have a scaremongering news wing through NBC.
:wtf:
