Hello

So MTN 5G is available in my area, and I would like to find out if it is possible to test the connectivity without signing up for another contract?
Is it possible to purchase the Sh@reLink CPE Pro 2 5G or any other 5G router and test it with a prepaid sim card or use an existing LTE contract sim card.?

Thanks

last i read you are able to do this so if you know someone with a 5G phone you can use normal data.

Will work, you'll just have to get about 1TB to do 5 speedtests (joke).

Thanks, for the replies.
I'm going to borrow a 5G phone to test it.
Where can I purchase a 5G router?
I asked a MTN store rep if I could purchase one, they said they don't sell router only.

Tested on a Samsung S20 Ultra 5G G988B/DS and it did not work, signal icon shows 4G+ and speeds were around 50-60mbps.
Tested 2 sim cards; 1 is a 1TB LTE business contract and the other sim card is prepaid with data share from the 1TB contract.

you sure you are in 5g range?

they've just put 5G all over where I live and my S21+ 5G connects just fine, no changes needed

What speeds are you getting?
The zero rated mybroadband speedtest seems to die after about 5 seconds and then just flat lines at 0.00 (tried on different days - same result) so i havent been able to do many tests. When I did test on my Afrihost data I got 180 down ad around 60-80 up. But I was quite far from the highsite.

A few months ago I tried it out in Blouberg when MyBB's test site still worked and got anywhere from 250 to 400, distance to the site makes a big difference.

I also don't get 5G on my OnePlus 9 PRO 5G, MTN technical support says i am using an old SIM CARD. I will do a sim swap and see
