t's a great day to be part of the Afrihost family!

We're proud, delighted and honoured to let you know that we've agreed to join MTN. They are buying 50% +1 of Afrihost's shares and the current shareholders are retaining the remaining 50%.

So what's going to change for you?

Absolutely nothing.

What do you think of the MTN takeover?

Seems their FB page shows more concern than joy at this point ...... me, I dont know what to make of it........

lol... soon mtn would put a 3gb cap on the uncapped accounts and say its uncapped... good luck.

I'm making a point of it not to touch mtn even with a 10 meter pole...

already cancelled my business uncapped accounts with them...

Well I don't think it will be a bad thing, it will inject a lot of money into Afrihost and give them the ability to invest in new, bigger ideas that probably wouldn't have been possible without the available capital.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. You don't pony up for a controlling share in a company unless you intend to control that company. Cash injection into Afrihost = awesome. Being closer to your upstream provider = awesome. Handing them the keys? Not so much.

Wishful thinking i rate. Not only capital will be injected. Slowly but surely injection of new management and then comes the curbing.

I preferred Afrihost the way it was, personal and client orientated. Mtn does not have the same values. Welcome to being a number :)

Don't think it's very personal at the moment...still waiting for a reply to a ticket I opened on the Client Zone on Sunday... How long will it take them? Even Cybersmart replies quicker than this..

The advantage they now lose, and one that they have previously exploited, was when they moved their entire infra-structure over the MTN and having the flexibility in deciding which partners to use. Afrihost rationalised the move over to MTN on the basis that they would be able to offer better value to their customers and they largely delivered, but that trump card is now definitely gone. Now with MTN having a controlling stake there is zero chance of that happening, MTN definitely won't let them. What if MTN stops delivering? It is making a lot of customers feeling uneasy.

I think there is no disadvantage to being bought out by their provider. This should actually allow for cheaper prices and more infrastructure upgrades, because of the higher demand of DSL on the MTN network. I just hope MTN keeps up Afrihost's great reputation, or improves it.

Yeah, mergers and acquisitions have a way of making or breaking a company .... AH could do with the growth, but not with the MTN lax customer attitude.
Having said that, their customer support on my last enquiry was really bad.

I really do hope AH keep a unique footprint for competition sake and dont become a shell for the MTN crowd ..... guess time will tell.

I'm going to keep the free 1 gig account. I use the email address sometimes.
But I'm going to change. I hate MTN. I cant even play games to local server anymore because the ping is just to high. And it seems so with most afrihost clients whom I chat to in game.
