I've reached the point now where my BlackBerry is almost of no use to me due to MTN's BIS being so slow and unresponsive in my area (Welgelegen, Panorama, Goodwood areas in Cape Town). Even my BlackBerry Messanger messages get "stuck" in my "outbox" (delivered late). I'm not even trying to go on te web anymore as it will take forever. When I try to do speedtest the test go through multiple dead periods. My wife is on Vodacom's BIS and my daughter on Cell C's BIS and both are much much faster. Cell C actually surprises me. MTN is a major disappointment.

I don't want to judge here or anything but i thought MTN is the best when it comes to BIS depending on what type of hand set you've like for example 8520 on vodacom will display GPRS and sometimes on EDGE, and with MTN noticed you get always EDGE...

Did you lodge a phone call with MTN with the problems you are experiencing.

Here we go again!! Earlier this year MTN BIS was also "unusably slooooww". Then there was an upgrade or something done on the servers. Then BIS was flying again and I reached speeds of 100KB/s. NOW we are back in the situation before the "upgrade" was done. In the evenings I barely get 5KB/s. Are there so many new BIS subscribers slowing the speed down? Maybe MTN must "upgrade" the servers or connections to RIM again. Any MTN rep here that can enlighten us?

MTN, 3G, Bryanston..

I given up on Mtn bis I have to wake up early hours of the morning when house break in's start to enjoy the phone.

I'm on mtn bis in centurion and my bis is also fine. It is a bit slower than earlier this year. I just can't download more than 3 videos from vuclip at a time or it fails. In peaktime I can just download 1. Earlier this year I had 5 movies downloading together. This is on edge, on 3G I can do much more.

What are u guys using to measure the speeds? I'm close to cape town cbd and also experiencing a bit of a slow down, MTN + 9700.

I tried downloading that speedtest app from the link on the apps thread and via google search and got a 404 both times

I just download a movie from vuclip to see what i can get.
