Hi All,

Ok so hopefully this is short and sweet and I do apologize if this subject has been broached before but really.....I searched and searched and couldn't find it.

Is there a way for me to connect to and browse or download from newsgroups or news servers (however they are defined) using my mtn datacard. I have tried connecting using grabit but obvioulsy my adsl isp news server address is not going to work....even if I do type in my username and password....cos I tried.

And I have phoned MTN and they were like trying to tell me how to connect to a VPN so that I can get my own company's news....OMFG....put ppl on the helpdesk/helplines/call centers that know what they are talking about.

Either way. Is this possible or not and if it is possible what is the address I must use or how do I do it please?

Thanx in advance.

Regards
Draco

Dear Draco :>>>

I'm not sure if Vodacom or MTN or other Cellphone ISP's currently provide News server services.

Start -> Run -> type in CMD *black dos bos will popup*
Simply ping the news server. ping news.mtn.co.za etc.

If u get a reply it should work, if u get none, it doesn't exist or is offline.

If you cellphone provider doesn't have a local news server that u can use, you could buy a international one *they are usually cheap* and since your data-bundle is international cap, u can download any data from international sources.

If u do not want to buy international news server services u could try seeking out free international one's.

They are usually not very fast, and also not always online or give limited connectivity at times.

Not sure if these two still work, and how fast they will be. But u could try them out. *do note that if u put your news grabber on, that these do take around 20-30minutes to startup at times, they sometimes say connecting or cannot connect to server, but starts after 20minutes or so*

freebin.readnews.com (4 connections max, type in any username / pass)
freebin-auth.readnews.com (4 connections max, type in any username / pass)

Hey,

Thanx for the reply. Yeah I tried news.mtn.co.za and various others that I could think off but no luck.

I think it is actually stupid that they don;t have a news server. I mean what is the use of having 3mbps (give or take) and not been able to use it to download from news groups...

Oh well...most probably cost me an arm and a leg...will stick to DSL.

Anyway. Thanx for the reply

Cheers

If u got international cap, try those free one's out. They aren't Super fast. But it beats torrents. *since u don't have to upload*
