I'm considering getting an iPhone 4 32GB on a MTN AnyTime 200 contract. Does anyone here have this contract and know if it has a hard R 200 limit even with data? Or could the data costs accrue even if the R 200 limit has been reached? I'm a bit skeptical about MTN's billing for obvious reasons. Would just like to know.

Thanks in advance.

It can go over the R200 data wise. Also you can't use all of the R200 for data. Some of it (most of it)has to be used for calls according to MTN staff. The amount that you could use for data was quite small iirc. As for placing a limit on the R200. Well they can apparently do it although they themselves told me at more than one store that it doesn't work very well and they often have customers where it has gone over the allocated amount. So IMHO avoid if at all possible.

I think its about 20% can only be used for data, its will charge R2/1MB and the system will forget to stop you even if you reach your set limit, think the default is around R900.

I got the same thing with my BB but on top up so no surprise bills

Hi

Thats correct, if you opt for the TOP UP option on the contract, you cant go over the bill. Once the free monthly allocated data is depleted, it will start depleting the R200 airtime. If there is no airtime then it ceases to work and there is no billing, unless of course you purchase a recharge voucher.

Note that the R200 monthly Rand value allocation can be used on calls or data. There are no restrictions i.e. the total R200 can be used on additional data or the total R200 on calls. Only thing you cannot do is purchase additional bundles with the monthly R200 allocation....

Hope this helps. If you are in GP I can get you in touch with the correct Service Center who can assist, just PM me some details...

When did this change...?

i meant right now

Getting info from MTN is like tapping water from stone, so if you want info RIGHT NOW then you're fscked :) Phone tomorrow or go visit an outlet directly but I'm telling you now there is a VERY good change that you will have to pay in on the phone you want if you take it as a topup contract. (I know this becasue my 5800 had a R2000 pay in on topup contract but was free on a anytime 100.)

thanks, will just have to wait then

Yeah, they can whip out their list and check it out for you quickly. It's retarded that they charge you more but thats cellphone networks for you.
