MTN Balance Check

Why is there no easy way to check my MTN balances. I used to be with Cell C and they had a free sms you could send and it would report your balances to you.

Now with MTN you have to phone a number and follow voice prompts, it takes longer and is a hassle.

Ideally I'd like to get an SMS or email every day that let me know my airtime and data bundle balances, any clue on how to accomplish that?
 
Dial *162# & follow prompts to register. Afterwards you can easily check you balance on all bundles using this (*162) service. No automatic daily sms, though. :(
 
I remember a number to check (supposedly free call) - 16202... does that not work anymore?
 
Voice prompts and entering numbers is so slow. Just let me active a daily email
 
Was not aware that "Cellular: Phones, Call Contracts, Content" was vodacom only.
 
@schpat - are you on a top - up contract / pre-paid? I just dial *141# and it immediately send me my airtime balance, sms bundles balance and data bundle balance. You can also dial *141*(a single number here)# which gives you shortcuts to data / sms bundles ect where you can check specific balances and purchase specific bundles. Hope that helps!!!
 
Unfortunatly the service is not available on contract. But it should be.
