Hey guys

I've tried searching for an answer but found nothing.
I currently have around R2000 carried over airtime on my Anytime 350 contract, and i'm due for an upgrade.
If i renew my contract but switch to an Anytime 200, will i still keep my R2000 carried over airtime?

MTN seem to be confused about this.

Thanks in advance

Cant speak for MTN....but with Vodacom, you will carry over the accumulated airtime.....provided that it does not violate the bucket system business rules. For example with Vodacom you can not carry over more than 6 months worth of minutes or airtime. So lets take the below as a example.

Top Up 200 and you have accumulated R1200

You now want to migrate down to a Top Up 135...which means that your accumulated airtime is too much for the new package and it violates the business rule....so the below will happen.

135 * 6 = R810.00 will be carried over, and the balance will be forfeited.

I imagine MTN would work on a similar model. But they must confirm this with you before you proceed.

Well i got 3 different explanations, one person said it does carry over, one said it does not, and another said it only carries over if you stay on the same package or upgrade to a higher package not if you downgrade (which is what i want to do).

I was thinking of transferring it to a prepaid number just in case i do lose it, but it doesn't work that way. The me2u transfer does not use the included monthly airtime, the transferred amount is added on to your bill. Any other ideas how i can use up the airtime fast? Besides the obvious call/sms/data...

I'm actually in the same situation - have over R2000 carried over and want to move to the 200 package - if I can't transfer the carried over amount, I will donate it to animal shelters at R10/sms - I have been doing this in the past - you just SMS DOG TO 38919 (http://www.barkingmad.co.za/) or you can

DONATE R10 TO GUIDE DOGS AT END OF MONTH: SMS see TO 38051

DONATE R10 TO AFRIFORUM AT END OF MONTH: SMS FORUM TO 38655

DONATE R10 TO AFRIFORUM STOP MALEMA AT END OF MONTH: SMS STOP TO 38655

But one thing is for sure I won't just let it expire into MTN's pockets

Just record the next conversation with a call center agent who says it carries over and get a reference number. Then if it doesn't carry over, just hellopeter it and you should be able to get it back.

Sorry bout reviving an old thread, but when i upgraded 2 months ago, the oke at the counter said my carried over airtime will remain only if i stay on the same contract or upgrade to a higher contract...
I didn't feel like losing all that airtime so i had no choice but to stay on the 350 :/

Sorry for the necro :D, but I just thought about the same think and was wondering if anybody has tried to it as yet.
I'm due for an upgrade soon, but also don't want to throw away the extra airtime.

I've seen some comments from other users who lost their airtime when they downgraded.

The system Okie described is the way mtn explained it to me.
The lady sounded very knowledgeable other than the other call centre agents I spoke to.
I ended up donating my airtime and ported to cell c.
What good is top up airtime when you can't use it the way you want?
