I opened a contract on Saturday the 29th of November for a Nokia N96 on an MTN Anytime200 deal at MTN Kolonade. I was also promised a the device within 2 days (by Monday the 1st Dec) and I am, to this day, still waiting.! I know that I'm credit worthy and for some reason I'm being ignored!

This is what i sent to MTN today...

I really don't understand the quality of your service MTN, who on earth do you think you are lying to me and avoiding me???? I opened a contract on Saturday the 29th of November for a Nokia N96 at MTN Kolonade and was promised a device by Monday... fair enough. Did it arrive NO!!!!!!! Okay, then i called you on tuesday at around 4-5pm and MTN Kolonade promised me a follow up call... Did I get it? NO!!!!! Thinking you might have forgotten, I picked up the phone and called MTN Kolonade (they were still opened) and they didn't answer! i lost count how many times i called! IS THAT SERVICE? I dont think so. please deliver my device TODAY and stop messing around. I came to you in good hopes that you will come through for me as your anytime contract specials are very attractive. I didnt know what was waiting for me.

Do me a big favour and finish off this long over-due contract processing. I want my phone.

Yours sincerely
My name and number censored

Do you think that they will actually do something or are they just notorious with these things? Oh and is there an MTN rep in here?

I know this is not what you want to hear but I personally feel that email could have been a little more business like and less emotional. In my experience a message like that gets passed around and laughed at rather than responded to.

I also find it a bit unbelievable that you were promised a device two days later. The salesperson really put their c_ck on the block if they made that promise!

I don't think it's a mistake or a misunderstanding.

With writing skills such as yours, you are probably unemployed, or a janitor at best. Thus you failed the credit check and they simply didn't bother to let you know.

Seek some adult literacy classes, then try again.

Good luck.

That's a bit harsh Vlad. No need to insult the guy like that.

It mite be a stock issue. I've been waiting almost two weeks for my omnia now. Be patient

You the guy who's Omnia broke a day after you got it?and then received a "new" one with a broken seal/sticker/label?:)

Tough luck dude, but I REALLY want this phne so I am prepared to wait 4 weeks if I have to.

A 'New' Omnia which is faulty as I can neither access the built-in 8G flash nor the 8G Micro SD via USB cable or card reader, so it render my phone useless if you want to listen to music, watch videos as BT upload is painful.

I'm with Fern9do... that post was a bit harsh and it has no good advice at all! When I posted mine I thought I was being a little harsh in saying that the tone of the email was not correct, and may not get the desired response, but then Vlad just ripped into the poor chap!

The OP was not enquiring about furthering his education but rather whether we felt the email would achieve anything.

Back on topic.... In the ideal world you would be able to walk into a shop and walk out with a cellphone. In reality there are credit departments that need to be passed through and credit checks that need to be done. I do not believe that a salesperson would have promised on a Saturday that a phone would be ready to be picked up on the Monday... when the hell would the credit checks get done?

I am a firm believer that being angry and nasty to people does not get them to act more efficiently on your behalf. I much prefer taking the polite enquiring path. Think about yourself in this situation. If someone was being rude would you be willing to drop everything to help them or would you do it when you could?

For evidence of which response works better try to find my story about the efficient service I received from the MTN shop in Pavilion...

lol... yeah.. Some harsh reaponses, but at hellopeter I did something different. Oh vlad, choose your words man (don't think janitors can even afford an N96). I know that that was ranting, but hey, the last time they did respond to one of my rants, not sure if this one was as vaild, that's why I asked you guys. Has anyone had a similar problem? It's just that with Vodacom, i received my handset three working days after papers were signed. So on certain grounds, my argument is valid. The only glitch may be the ranting in which, thanks to people who chose their words, I have noted a bit of immaturity. It happens to the best of us. But how long does MTN normally do this?

I don't actually think there is a problem. You are after a phone which has just been released. Some places probably do not even have stock yet and others will have more demand than supply so there are bound to be delays. As stated, yes you would want it immediately, everyone does, but you have to be realistic.

Further to this you applied on a Saturday so I have no doubt that if you were promised two days, at best it was two working days. Yes, that has passed too but then we revert to the new phone argument.

I will finish by saying it would be nice to be kept in the loop and get told how things are progressing but unfortunately this just does not seem to the way of big companies... but in saying that it is probably the sales reps fault and not MTN. My MTN guy at Pavilion, Ebby, even called me at 7:30 at night to give me an update as he had been in training all day! Now that is service and it was the same MTN you are having issues with. So perhaps have it out with the branch manager and not MTN themselves.

Good point. What I was against though is the promise unkept. Through that mistake, a lot of conclusions were made in my mind. And I can also copmplain that the MTN Assistant to whom I spoke did not clear this thing up and the branch never even called me as planned... This shouldn't have reached this point though.

The problem the OP has, besides not getting the phone, is that he/she wasn't communicated with. If they promised him the phone on Monday, and it didn't arrive, the salesperson should have picked up the phone and said so. And, kept him/her informed as to the status of the application until it is finalized.

In my experience, very few companies bother keeping in contact with you. YOU always have to phone them, and end up getting shunted around until you hang up, or they find some unlucky soul to incur your wrath.

Must say though, I had better luck with my application. It was confirmed last Friday, delivery promised on Tuesday due to stock, courier got lost , delivery then promised again for yesterday, courier did not get lost, and received my phone. But, it wasn't MTN.

My application was approved in a matter of days, I told them to wait as I was busy moving bank accounts, gave them the go ahead last week, and they confirmed everything on Friday.

I think it depends on how you score initially, they might decide to do a more in-depth credit check, or genuinely verify your employment. The phone I got, if you check my other posts in this forum, is the Omnia. :D
