I have a contract on MTN (TopUp200), and my Dad has one too, but his is like a procall 1200 or something.

My dad is can now upgrade his contract, but his not tech savvy at all, and likes the phone he is using at the moment, so he said, he will upgrade, and i can take the new device, so i got the specials booklet, went through it and my excitement died .... there are no phones available that i like, i already have a DHD, so i dont want to take something like the samsung SGS2.

So this is where my question comes in, firstly, is the phones in the booklet the only phones available? because it is a very small list ... and secondly, why is that some contracts can only be taken with small contracts, i mean they make more money from the bigger contracts, surely they can give u the same device free on it, as they give on the smaller contracts ? (Talking about a GalaxyTab, that was free on topup200, but not on higher contracts, aswell as a Blackberry + free 40" LED Tv, also only available on like topup 200)

Hope someone can shine some light here for me, thanks

No, there is a more extensive list available if you ask nicely enough in store.

I was on the website, it is just a PDF of the brochure they give you in store, and i also asked in store, they said that is the only phones they can get, this is frustrating.

There is one or two more phones on the site, but its only a MTNSP deal, so no in store upgrade, you have to do over the phone, but the phones are not "wow"

OP, call 808 (I'm assuming he is an MTNSP subscriber), speak to the retentions department and ask for the Upgrade Pricing List... it's a spreadsheet with every phone on every contract and the price per month.

The phone/credit/benefit that they 'give' you is purely a function of the subscriber's average monthly spend with MTNSP.
So if you don't want any of the current handsets, you could get him to upgrade on a UYO (Use Your Own) contact - ie. they don't give a phone, but rather credit his account with the value that they would have given (and then you get your dad to give you the cash and run :P)

Already phoned the retentions dept, the sent me a pdf, but it was just a one page document, will phone again and ask for the spreadsheet version.

Thanks for the info about UYO, did not know that, think that might be the best route to go.

One last thing, if i decide to take the BB torch, is there in any way that i can either set my topup200 acc to have the BIS included, or to make mtn take the "free" BIS that will be loaded on his number and load it on my number instead?

Thanks for all the help guys

They won't cross-subscribe onto your contact but yea, BIS can be bundled onto any contract @ the monthly rate.

It could have been a pdf, can't actually remember, but my point was more that its quite comprehensive about all the different handsets on all their packages.

Same issue, different day

So i phoned MTNSP today, and asked for the list of *available* phones, so they send me document again with exactly the same phones as in the brochure, in fact, it is the brochure. So i phone again, and they tell me, that is the promotions they are running, but i am allowed to take *any* phone that i want, and it will be on a standard package, so can someone confirm 2 things for me,

1) Can i actually take any phone, coz in the past, i was told if its not on our list, we cant get it.
2) what is a *standard* contract, mtnsp could not really tell me the difference between their promotion package and standard.

Thanks again,

It's really difficult trying to give MTN new business. I called Durban head office to try and take out a new business contract, oh boy, what a frustrating exercise.

Is there anyone on here involved on the business side in the Durban office that can drop me a PM?
