MTN data bundle promo prices are now permanent

Something different. But still exorbitant.

R149 - 1GB from MTN.
R145 - 5GB from Afrihost Mobile.

R245 - 2GB from MTN.
R197 - 10GB from Afrihost Mobile.

Still better than vodacom,R50 for 100megs ta

and don't come blabbering about their bundle and contracts being way cheaper. Don't care,if I top up data I don't feel like paying hundreds a gig, while if you subscribe to a package you get it cheap

Believe it or not, Vodacom still asks R279 for a 1 GB data bundle! This is insane pricing. MTN was always on par with Vodacom's high pricing but it is encouraging to see them dropping their rates. I really want to move to Vodacom but this and their high OOB rates makes it impossible for me.

Both MTN and Vodacom really do need to wake up and smell the coffee...

As a small independent dealer, I know how unpopular Vodacom has become. Since January 1st I have supplied just TWO Vodacom SIM packs. MTN has sold five in the same period. But Cell C, Telkom Mobile and Red Bull have been selling quite regularly.

Vodacom are (at best) complacent, year after year their network collapses every Christmas once we get a few visitors in the town. Vodacom stick their heads in the sand unaware that the visitors to the town are often company executives who are less than happy with almost three weeks of below abysmal signal/service. So, I am rather hoping that Vodacom is indeed slowly bleeding to death... they deserve it! The OOB data rate is the same as it was in 2004 and there really is no acceptable excuse for being R2 per megabyte almost ten years on!

Cell C recently introduced lower than 15c per meg pricing on data bundles greater than 500MB. Here is the list of new Cell C data bundle prices:

Anytime data
1GB - R149 (14.55c)
2GB - R199 (9.71c)
3GB - R299 (9.73c)
5GB - R399 (7.79c)

Night surfer data (00h00 - 06h00)
1GB GigaNite - R49
2GB GigaNite - R99

These prices are still much higher than my recommended pricing which prices a GB between R10.24 and R5.

MY PRICES PWN!

Just allow Top-Up contract users to buy data with their airtime for crying out loud!

I would be rolling in the data :D

Here's your Answer...................

Can someone please explain why MTN is more expensive than Afrihost

As all Mybroadband forumites will know by now that 3G Data is available at around R99 for 2 Gigs and the more Gigs you buy the lower the cost.

If you had a company and it cost's you 2c to produce a product and you sold it for 100c and people bought it non stop. Would you drop your your price considering you selling Millions of your product ?

Please answer honestly.
