Mtn Data Bundles expire fast.

is it only the one gig that is changed from 60 days to 30 days or is it all bundles?

Not sure. Was to pissed when they confirmed. Just ended the call.

was about to tell you WTF you talking about they valid for 60 days and only the give back data was valid for 30 days, but Ichecked their website, and yep looks like all the bundles are now 30 days :(

Flip the giveback data on the larger packages is only 15 days :wtf:

I used to buy a 1 gig every 2 months was quite cost effective, now i guess I am going to have to buy 500mb every month, sheesh :(

Might finally force me to go dual SIM. So afrihost and axxess.

Is it possible that these scumbags are making sure that your purchased bundle (the 60 day validity) is used up first and then switching to the bonus data (30 days validity) only when the purchased one is depleted? That way, you think you still have data valid for another month but it expires after 30 days...
I bought a 1Gig bundle on the 20/05 and it expired on the 20/06. I still had 800Mb of the total left before it expired.
Also, how is data shared? I've never heard of this before.

Data Share lets you share a data bundle with other MTN SIM cards.
You can activate and manage it using the menus from *141*5#
Great feature if you need it :)

Hi MTN,
I have been happily buying 5GB bundles for R399, valid for 60days, and enjoying the 5GB promo for the first 30days.
Whatever was left from the main bundle was extended for another 60days when i got a new 5GB bundle, which made me a happy, returning customer. This was a better deal for me than any other mobile network (no ADSL here, no Telkom Mobile either)
and i have spent over R4000 on pre-paid airtime since December 2013, and used over 73GB.

Now the R399 is up to R430 - fair enough, nothing gets cheaper - BUT the main bundle is only 30days,
AND it's getting used before the promo bundle (i checked data share is still disabled)

Will the main bundle be extended again if i buy another 30 day bundle?
Perhaps i will never know, because it's time to start shopping around again.
I hope MTN offers a better deal soon or i'm sure they will loose many old returning customers... :(

Yes it's very sad indeed. They changed the rules. 30days expiry now and bundle data get's used before the da taaa promotional extra data because MTN uses whichever data expires first. So i think if you buy the data bundles whith the promotional data expiring in 3,5 or 15days the promotional data will be used first. Can't confirm though.

You are better off using Axxess or Afrihost with your prepaid sim now. Axxess offers 3 months roll over which is nice.

Thanks for the pointer cavedog, i will look at Axxess & Afrihost ...

There's something I don't get about that rule. If the bundle that expires first is the one that gets consumed first, how do they distinguish between the two bundles (bonus & once off bundle) because you get them at the same time when you buy them and they'll both expire in 30 days...

The bonus bundle used to expire first (after 7 or 15 or 30 days, depending on size), and it was consumed first, so you could use it before starting on the main bundle (60days).

Any remaining data in the main bundle would rollover for another 60days, provided you bought a new bundle before it expired.
Which was nice if you needed a few GB on hand, and you could as long as you bought new bundles every 60days. (returning customer)

Now, since the main bundle is consumed before the bonus bundle, the only way to have remaining data is to loose the bonus bundle, and who knows if the main bundle will still rollover, since they changed the rules.

Axxess 90day rollover seems like the better deal, untill we all have access to uncapped ADSL (or FTTH!)...

Update:
Got a 1GB once-off bundle today, just to see if it would affect my current bundle's expiry date.
The main bundle was increased by 1GB and extended from 10July to 1Aug, very nice.
And to my pleasant surprise, the bonus bundle was also increased by 1GB AND extended from 10July to 31July.
(1 day less than the main bundle)
I can confirm that the bonus bundle is being consumed first now, not that it really matters since both bundles last about 30days and can be extended.

So, i'm sorry to see the 60days reduced to 30days, but at least we don't loose the bonus bundles - not such a bad deal after all, thanks MTN :-)
