It used to be that one day before my unused data expired I would buy say the smallest data offer - R5 or R10 for a few mb then my data would not dis-appear as in "expired" but roll over, however, last month this did not work - have MTN changed something?

This e-mail I sent to ICASA today:

Complaint: MTN Number 063 xxx xxxx

Dear N ... ,

Please confirm, if MTN is legally permitted to deactivate my number after 90 days even though there is still a balance on this account. Is MTN allowed to keep that balance or is that theft? Is a new user (if there is any) allowed to keep the amount for airtime with which I credited his/her account erroneously or is that theft?

There is no reply to my uncounted calls, voice mails, WhatsApps or SMSes to this number. A normal user (by that I mean a user who is not as dishonest as MTN) would at least be on the phone once or reply to my polite messages to avoid an unnecessary argument.

Which means there is no new user of this number, which means MTN is lying.

Please escalate the complaint, N ... , The amount may be small, but this is a matter of principle. You should not allow this greedy, predatory communication behemoth get away with it.

Regards

Did you read the terms and conditions when you purchased the simcard? Clearly not. 90days is normal period for cancellation if no chargeable activity takes place on simcard
