When Telkom digs in an area, they sometimes kill someones power by accident. MTN has been digging in Randburg and has killed hundreds of families water and electricity.
Not only once, but so many times that I have stopped counting. The poor untrained and unskilled temporary labourers where just told to "maak 'n sloot" HECTIC!

Not cool when a company hurts normal families like this...

Shame Andre.... did you not get the tender ?

I feel some hostility

From what I have noticed, they all using the same company, Opti-something, to lay the cables.

Some hostility, but mostly anger, I like being able to enter my home, have electricity and water. Same as the other families in the area that are affected.

I guess more people will care if things affect them, a bunch of families somewhere in Randburg that the hand of the mighty MTN has smited, isn't really all that important. *sigh*

Look to be quite far...
Why don't you try get plans that are actually correct from the municipality....
Even Tshwane doesn't have plans that are perfect.

What about the all mighty had of Eskom??? or even Telkom???

Well one can say many things about Telkom and Eskom, BUT the sad truth is that MTN, who in my mind anyway was always a great company, has just become as bad as the best of them. I cannot understand how a company can just give a guy a pick and shovel and tell them to dig there, how do you hit the same power cable seven times in 20 metres?

And also actually Telkom (and Eskom) has actually become quite cool of late and personally I may actually start loving them again :)

Also regarding your blog... How do you train someone to use a shovel and a pick?
Please tell me where I can send my garden engineer.
Number two ... I can guarantee you that MTN just as other tenders requires that you use unskilled labour in your contact... thus creating jobs for those who don't have jobs...
Secondly how do you know that its actually MTN digging there if I may ask as I see no signs anywhere saying that it could be MTN...?

We will all wait for that day to come and then we will all die...lol:D

Oh and the last thing ... who ever it is laying cables there you most probably will benefit from it sooner than later so beer with it... I am sure you going to love that cable sooner than later... lol

You are aware that the water issue in Randburg, Soweto and what not has nothing to do with MTN not so ?

hehehe Uli, hopefully not :)
regarding shovel training: One tells the labourer to expect cables pipes and all sorts of interesting things below a depth of 300mm and possibly uses cable detectors and whatever Eskom or Telkom does to get their labourers not to kill water and lights for a suburb. Then if you look at the picture on my blog, note that it is in the middle of the day and there are no people around... Uhuh, they all ran for the hills, I asked some of the guys who hit the water mains this time, they said they don't know, saw nothing :)

Also never mind the water that is being pumped nowhere, we have lots of water, we are rich.

Anyway, I guess you can save lots of money when someone must just "maak 'n sloot"
whatever anyone says here, I am still without electricity and water and I have to thank
MTN for that...

Mybroadband forums are quite lively, very cooool :)

Nope, not my water issue. That is squarely MTN's fault.
What happened in Soweto?

Notice was given for extended maintenance on the water mains for the greater Johannesburg erea. I think I have it on e-mail somewhere.... let me check
