Mtn - Do Your Job.

In some ways, I'd agree. But being abrasive isn't going to make them tend to your query any faster. Why don't you just change to Vodacom if you're so miserable?

I already use both. That is why I said Vodacom is better.

Randburg IP Change

I am unable to send email today as the IP address you allocate to me is listed on spamhaus.org. It's not my job or responsibility to have your IP address removed or to keep them off the list.

I pay you for a service and I expect it. I am unable to send email so you are thus taking my money and not providing the service. What now? Another 7 days to de-list the IP? (196.11.241.43.)

I can't wait for your normal 7 days, so I de-listed it. It will still take hours before I can send email - get your act together!

(Vodacom had the same problem, but they took the appropriate steps to minimise the problem.)

Change of the translated public IP for all mymtn APN users connecting via Randburg.

OLD Public IP – 196.11.241.43

New Public IP – 196.11.241.45

Please note that the internet APN users will still be translated to 196.11.241.43.

ROFL @ mc721221.

he was so abusive towards Vodacom, they cancelled his contract and took their data card back!

The wheel turns dude.... Kalahari.com refuses to do business with you, due to your language and attitude, then Vodacom.

How long before MTN tells you to take a hike? You're running out of service providers!

MTNBroadband, do a search on his postings and you'll see what you're dealing with.

I always seem to read only complaining/negative/abusive martyr posts by mc, I thought it was just fluke. But I decided to check his history and, lo and behold, almost all of his posts *are* complaining/negative/abusive martyr posts. Someone needs to get laid :D

/me selects *ignore* button.

Just checked the posts here....

Is it me or is thjere a common thread...mc721221 complains about MTN's IP's being listed at spamhaus.org. He also complains about Vodacom's IP's being listed... I'm starting to wonder where the spam is coming from?

clearly you have issues to revert to name calling.. grow up and get a life... typical of a user who doesnt understand....

Can't agree more!!!! Get your facts straight, MTN NS (Network Services) is a 1st Tier ISP. Not MTN Group or SP, at which your comments have been directed at.

MTN NS is the MTN Group 's ISP, in which they have equity.

Johnno - you are wrong on both accounts.

I'd like to take the time to thank you - I'm important enough for multiple guys to register new accounts just to flame me - thanks :)

How do you think that the service will ever improve if you don't point out the problems?

You're to bloody lazy to get off your asses and do it yourselves.

Stop whining and abusing other people's networks. The reason those IP addresses are blacklisted is because of people like yourself sending dodgy email from dynamically assigned address blocks. As a result, most decently configured mail servers will block email from any known broadband address blocks, like DSL addresses for example. Hence the ISP provides an SMTP server for your use. If you choose not to use it (presumably because the content you're sending would get your account cancelled) that's your own baby. Incidentally, many overseas ISP's block outgoing SMTP from their DHCP ranges altogether, forcing their subscribers to go through their own mail servers. People like yourself bring that about.

If you used the network in the manner for which it was designed, you'd be able to send and receive your emails quite fine, just like the rest of us do. The common denominator in this equation is you. Stop whining.

I can see you have no clue, so let me draw you a picture.

Many ISP use DNS black lists. Even if I was able to send the mail via a sever that in not listed, the email will still be deleted (or whatever) when it gets to the other side (the recipients mail server) as the "dial-up" (or connection) has been listed.

No - I am not running a mail server on my pc. No - I am no sending our any "bad" content (including spam)

Having one IP address for a large group of users cause a problem as the odds are better it will get listes as well as the fact that you can "reconnect" to get an alternative.

If you guys don't like my posts then a - don't read them, or b. have my account deleted at myadsl. (Or should I just register a new nick with each new complaint - as you guys are doing??)

You complaining about me complaining makes you just as guilty ;)

Join Date. Top right hand corner.

Have a look at it, it may give you 'some idea' of when my account was registered.

As for your reverse name lookup issue,
1. You say its the IP, the guys then changed it (See my post above) or advise on how to fix your problem (See other people's posts), by using a registered SMTP service.

2. Now you say it the name, if its the name it YOUR problem, not your ISP.

Which one is it? I think the latter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forums are commonly used to discuss issues and find solutions, not complain!! SMILE it may help....

I sent off a fairly lengthy post here discussing the original issue and how it is solved. Seems to have disappeared. If I don't see it tomorrow am I'll retype. We are doing our job.

As I have stated before the preferred way to send e-mail via MTN is using mail.mtn.co.za as the SMTP server.

I know it's a hassle when changing all the time but there are ways of simplifying (on Outlook Exp duplicate the account except for one change and use the drop-down).

We have implemented reverse DNS for mail.mtn.co.za so there should be no basic issue

In this respect I must remind we were the first wireless provider in SA to implement this - some years ago - and it has worked well and handles massive volumes each day. I also see from other network posts we are not at all behind in this respect.

There are alternative solutions but they carry compromises in terms of security and we are reluctant to compromise on this particular issue. However we welcome constructive ideas on how to enhance the service as it is a fairly dynamic environment. Sometimes ideas seem obvious but when one does the full risk analysis it is not wise for our implementation.

In response to some comments, we are a 'full ISP' in terms of connectivity with a very large active user base and substantial traffic. We have a corporate division with first-tier status (http://www.mtnns.co.za/). Bear in mind we have a very complex implementation with corporate tailored accounts (including national VPNs and internet breakout), national pops, broadband overseas vpns (eg for secure roaming), wap traffic, wap breakout, internal services (such as MTNLoaded), supplier networks, and very high security GSM wide area networks. I believe (and third parties have commented) our system is world class.

Happy e-mailing :)

Thanks. You'll see the posting re-sent above - could have been finger trouble but I found it in my cache. Hope it goes some way to resolving your queries. We can't tailor the service but we have tried to do what we can within the bounds of our own public-service criteria.

By the way when there are delays in postings we are busy consulting internally. It sometimes takes a few heads to produce the best way forward. This time I even phoned a respected forum contributor for an outside opinion before we responded! :)
