Not sure if anyone can confirm this.

I live on the Bluff on the army base side, near the point. My MTN signal keeps going up and down. When my phone picks up the 3G network it has 4 bars of signal but I cant phone out or receive calls, when its on edge it works fine.

I know its not the phone because it only happens at home and I dont have any issues at work. This started Friday night last week.

This is an issue for me because I cant find a way to force my phone on to edge only so it keeps connecting to the 3G network a few seconds after connecting to the Edge network. I have tested this a little and have managed to successfully call someone when I was on the Edge network.

So pretty much at the moment I cant call or receive calls most of the time. I suspect its got something to do with some 3G related component of the tower nearest me.

Anyone have any advice or who could help?

Will give it a try, not looking forward to explaining all that over the phone though.

Phoned them and basically got told that this is due to them doing a roll out of 3G on the network.

Would them working on the 3G network really affect my making and receiving calls?

I was told that I need to change my phone to use the standard network and not 3G. Seems like MTN arent being particularly considerate of the customer if their maintenance requires me to change my settings for some unspecified time period. Also the tower in my area did have 3G deployed already :/
