Can someone (MTN) please help. I know that 3G is still new on MTN side. i need to get into a VPN. For me to get access to the site I need a Public IP currently i am getting a private IP that is running on the same network range and class that is sitting behind my Firewalls. We got it working fine with Vodacom 3g. They had to create an APN for VPN users that instead of a Private IP you get issued with a Public IP.

Thanks andries101 sorry I should have mentioned that I can work fine on the Vodacom 3G cards on the internetvpn APN. I have tried to use the same thing on MTN card but to no avail. :o

You can add the following to your registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPSec]
"AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule"=dword:00000002

It will let windows connect to a vpn through a natted address.

It's a hack, but it works.

Hi,

I'm new to MTN GPRS so I'm looking for some info about the IP addresses supplied to GPRS clients.

I need to connect to a remote device using GRPS, is there some way of getting the public IP address of the device and then send it to me? (I assume the IPs are dynamic)

What exactly is an APN?

Thanks

Apn

HI

APN stands for, access point name on which for MTN you will have to use
the public apn which is " internet" or "myMTN"

THANK YOU

And do I get a public, routable IP address when I connect to GPRS?

Hi
You have to log on to the internet APN to get a public IP address. You do not have to be provisioned. I was asked specifically not to publish this username and password. Try PM Christopher (MTNBB) and ask him the settings. He is no longer "officially" on this forum, but he still checks his private messages.
Cheers ~

Technically speaking...MTN's had a working 3G network for much longer than Vodacom has...once again...marketing has a BIG influence on the consumer it seems.
