I recently got myself an MTN E270 modem to use at home. I knew I didn't have 3g reception but would have at least expected to be able to use edge.

But I can only connect using gprs.

Are only certain towers edge enabled or is there something I am missing.

This is in Honeydew/Northgate area.

It says it is connected to MTN gprs @56kbps. But download speeds are dismal, average about 2KB/s (=16kbps). I am moving soon to Northcliff so then I should get HSDPA but in the mean time EDGE would have been nice. Is there no way to try and force EDGE only, the mtn fastlink only has the option to force gprs/edge or 3g/hsdpa?

With a Vodacom Sim I connect using HSDPA and get decent decent speeds, but thats because there is 3G signal.
