Hi,

Ok, so the story goes where i want to move from MTN to vodacom. So there i go to buy a vodacom sim, slot it into the data card and use the MTN dashboard but sadly no HSDPA/3G reception. Thought it was just my area so had Vodacom3g look into the coverage for me and emailed some lady concerning it but sadly no response.

Luckily my sister went and got herself the vodaphone Novatel Merlin U630 and decided to check coverage again but with the VMC software aswell and what do you know... 3G popped up so coverage is no longer a problem. Can't use the novatel as its not mine so then connected with my Huawei E620 via the VMC software and only get GPRS.

Now the things i know:
1. I do have the coverage
2. My SIM is 3G activated

Any ideas what the problem could be now? Is the Novatel more "sensitive" than Huawei?

Thanks,

The obvious reason, would be that your E620 from MTN, appears somehow not to work on the Vodacom network - I'm not saying that it is locked to the MTN network - there may be some other non-locking explanation similar to [post=986902]this...[/post]

most of it is just jargon to me but noticed that it refers to a 64k sim which i do not have. using 32k. Im thinking something within my card is causing my probelm because everything works fine, just in a different card.

Does MTN or vodacom use their own firmware on the cards or do they use the manufacturers. If so anywhere where i can get the vodacom firmware except on the VC site as i looked but nothing for Huawei E620, only for the Huawei E220 USB modem. In that case, probably a stupid question, but could i install the E220 firmware or will it mess up my card?

Regards

Got it working

Finally got it to work :D

Seems the problem was the card didn't/couldn't switch over to 3G. Edited the VMC profile to 3G only and now riding the HSDPA wave. Thanks for the help tho.

1GB here i come :D
