PLEASE BE WARNED THAT MTN HAS A HUGE SECURITY WEAKNESS FOR BANKING
When trying to pay someone through one of the major banks internet banking sites they send a SMS to your cell phone containing a code which you enter into your web page and you are then able to pay anyone you chose.
One of the major banks recently had a leak in its security and the login codes to their clients internet banking web page was compromised which gave the crooks (all Nigerians) access to their access codes.
I was one of the clients and they transferred over R800K out of my account overnight. The bank acted quickly and reversed the payments and any that they could not reverse they reimbursed the clients the losses. Well done bank and that is why I am not mentioning their name here.
NOT THE SAME WITH MTN!!
As it so happened these same Nigerians were able to get into MTN's systems at 20h00 at night and do a SIM swop on my phone so that when the authorisation code was sent to my cell phone they could intercept it.
When I asked MTN (repeatedly sent emails to their head of investigations) how they are able to swop SIMS after hoUrs and what is to stop them doing this to other clients and using their airtime, etc, I received a big fat stony silence.
If they had uncovered the security problem I am sure they would have contacted me which means they still have a gaping hole in their security and it is no wonder so many of their clients complain of strange and unauthorised usage and cancelled SIM cards.
