I bought 500mb of data with loyalty points yesterday. When I check my data balance it says (Packet data bundle) 0.0MB (was 4mb last night) and (Loyalty Data 500) 0.0MB. How do I get the data I purchased with my loyalty points active? Been waiting since last night but I have not gotten any notifications or anything. Gone through the USSD menus but nothing! Any help will be appreciated:-)

No help for you my friend. MTN is reaping people off more then any other cell company out there. If you haven't learned that by now, I enjoy to see you suffer :D

Had the same problem, I loaded a loyalty bundle on thurday 09 feb no notifications but my loyalty points were used, cheked ussDand its still showing 0.0 MB as well so called 808 they see the loyalty bundle and what was used (more or less coresponds to what i used) and came to the conclusion the USSD data doenst work properly with Loyalaty.

decided to check online now at MTN http://www.mtn.co.za/MyMTN/MyInternetAccount/Pages/default.aspx and there its corect.

I've learnt the hard way...you have to activate the data bundle by going *141*6#

I bought a 24 hour data bundle, got an sms that my purchase went through, checked against my account in MTN active and *162*<PINCODE># and it was listed against my account so downloaded about a GB of data...get my bill and there it is R2000 for data usage...nowhere does it tell you that you have to activate the bloody bundle.

I have had similar pains.

I purchased the 24 hour bundle for my phone - to tether to my pc. Then i found out i have to activate it. Go through the motions to activate it. Call centre agent says i will get an sms to confirm its activated. 24 hours later no SMS.

I log an issue about this on hellopeter - they tell me, i used the bundle so they cant refund me.

I told them i have a smartphone, of course i used the bundle, my phone uses data every single minute its on - they didn't understand this.

Bottom line, be careful about these bundles. My suggestion is to maybe call the call center, ask them to confirm is active, and get a reference number.

For sure Ecco...be careful! Thing is I received an SMS to say that the bundle had been purchased succesfully, checked against both MTN active and *162*<PINCODE># and the bundle was listed there. Nowhere on the MTN site or elsewhere does MTN tell you you need to activate the bundle.

Purchasing any other bundle requires no activation and is immediately available against your account so why the inconsistency here? From what I've seen I'm not the only person to be screwed like this.

Quoting from MTN's loyalty page:
How long do I have to wait to get my purchase? Your purchase will be loaded immediately and you can use it as soon as it is loaded to your cellphone. In the unlikely event that your purchase was unsuccessful, your points will be reversed to your loyalty account the following day. We will also notify you via SMS when the reversal is completed.

Here is the thread i originally posted when the issue occurred:

Quite a painful experience getting the 24 hour data bundle loaded using my MTN loyalty points.

MTN guys, please you need to sort out this process.

Here are my issues:

1) When purchasing the bundle using your loyalty points via USSD, it doesnt tell you that you need to activate the bundle after you have purchased it. There could be hundreds of people who purchase it and then think they are ready to use their bundle. I only knew this because i bothered to call the MTN helpdesk to make sure all was in order
2) To activate this bundle requires you to use some fancy USSD number in my case it was eventually 141*6*5*3*1# - i was given a different 1 to use before this, which complained the service was only available to prepaid and top up customers.
3) Once you activate the bundle, you have to wait, according to the helpdesk consultant "anywhere between 2 to 24 hours" for the bundle to kick in. You get an sms to confirm. Again this is not communicated upfront. Why on earth why i purchase a 24 hour bundle right now if i only want to use it 24 hours later?

All in all,i think i had to make 5 calls to the helpdesk to get this thing activated on to then hear you need to wait "anywhere between 2 to 24 hours" to start using it, which is useless for me.

Thanks for nothing MTN.

Eventually i never even received the SMS to say the bundle was active

I've sent through a complaint to the NCC (on the grounds of unfair business practice - purchase any of the other bundles and no activation is required) and am in the process of doing the same with the ASA (the ASA purely to stop it from happening to anybody else).

All I want from them is for the data I used to be credited...to this day have not used the loyalty data bundle, I use FNB Connect's 3G APN (cheaper and seemingly quicker).

Just to make sure the activation thing is only for the 24 hour uncapped not for the normal bundles?

Seemingly so...according to the MTN Broadband Business Rules.

MTN One Day Internet Bundle Rules

After buying the bundle, the customer needs to activate it via MTN Self Service (by calling 141 or dialling *141*6*5*3*1#), for the 24 hour clock to start.
