Why is MTN being allowed to advertise services as ''mahala'' while those services are not free? Why can't the advertising authority proactively stop this misinformation campaign?

Look at the thievery.....

Normal rates for Anytime 200 w/o top up or zone R 2.30 and R 2.85

MTN TopUp ensures that you do not go over your monthly budget with your cellphone bill. Once you’ve exhausted/ used up your inclusive airtime and SMSs, you can then load PayAsYouGo airtime, giving you full control of your spending. MTN TopUp also offers you MTN Zone.

With MTN Zone you get up to 100% discounts on calls and SMSs. Customers calling MTN numbers benefit the most from Zone discounts. MTN Zone on TopUp will benefit all customers whether you are on an MTN Anytime TopUp or MTN Off Peak TopUp.

*When activating MTN Zone the package in-bundle and out-of-bundle rates will no longer apply. MTN to MTN calls will be charged at R2.50 and MTN calls to all other local networks will be charged at R3.00.

We charge you more to give you a discount....ftw ???

Yip and I only found that out when querying a bill. I never looked at my accounts until I felt I was overcharged.

Then I realised I was paying 2.70 per minute on anytime 350 for which the normal rate is 1.95.
I never bothered with t's and C's or looking at call charges because my airtime always rolled over.

Daylight robbery at its best.
Cell C is simple and true value.
MTN fooled me enough times.

I also thought that was fishy, especially with their new 'adverts' taking on Cell C. Honestly, I'd rather take the flat rate of 99 cents than have the option of "up to 100% free calls". Nothing is free in telecomms, at least in this country anyway.
