I've just decided to cancel MTN as my mobile SP at the end of its term due to this promotion. As a serious supporter of Liverpool FC, I simply can't support a company that has ties to Man Utd. I'm not sure what you guys think, but me thinks MTN would be alienating many avid supporters of other football clubs, especially Liverpool FC.

Or am I over re-acting?

Yes. I'm also a 'Pool supporter but business is business. Face the facts, Man U are top of the log and probably have a bigger fan base in SA than Liverpool. It therefore makes sense for MTN to offer this prize.

TBH I would enter, even if it means having to visit Old Trafford!!!

I'm a Man U supporter and this promotion won't get me moving my contact to them. Some might move. I see no reason.

OMW how petty and fail.
Hope you don't have a Samsung phone since they're involved with Chelsea...
So do you only have things that have to do with Liverpool?
Must lead a sad life.

You realise how screwed you are if oxygen decides to start sponsoring United? Good luck surviving without air.

Guy has a point, by subscribing to MTN you are indirectly contributing to Man Utds transfer funds (or at least assisting in paying off interest ;) )
The thought crossed my mind as well, I must admit..
And I'll gladly accept any reason to try and deter people from subscribing to MTN!
Had such issues with their last year, and see my rent thread regarding their adverts during games..

Doesnt vodafone also sponsor united? doh :(

Apologies guys - posted in the wrong forum. Didnt realise I posted in the Official True MTN Supporters furum.
You guys REALLY are fanatical fans! What is that? "Ayoba!" you scream?? The passion with which you cheer.. would make MTN's CEO proud!

I totally understand the financial motivation behind MTN's promotion, piggybacking off the pop-culture popularity of the Man Utd brand. Makes business sense.
All Im saying is as a supporter of an opposing team with a long history of Man Utd being its bitter rival, I choose not to associate myself with that brand. Simple, conscious, brand association.
Clearly no REAL football fans here who understand that.

Funny. I'm a life long Manchester United supporter yet I wouldn't even touch MTN with a barge pole.

No one here is sticking up for MTN, in fact, most have said how bad they are. Are you actually reading the posts?

+1. Some people actually use their money with their heads instead of handing it out/withdrawing it for stupid and petty reasons.

MTN are one of the official sponsors to Manchester united. I guess you don't read business news much. It makes sense to offer tickets to Old Trafford when you have affinity to that team that allows the winner full entry to Old Trafford...

@Electronaut - I'm guessing you won't wear Nike, drive or fancy a Audi/VW, use Vodafone/Vodacom, need I name more?

I have an MTN and VC contract. This ManU *spit* promotion sucks donkeys b@lls, but I would'nt go as far as ending the contract. It's just business.

Yes.

If mtn was linked to or promoting the s*n, well that would be a different matter entirely.

Wearing a David Beckham fragrance this morning. It was a Xmas gift from my girlfriend. We'll since I would like to be a real fan, I am going home to take a shower and pour the rest down the drain.

Good, but don't forget to replace the girlfriend too

I don't really have an opinion on the MTN / Utd promotion and to be quite frank I couldn't really care.

However, the ads themselves are so soul destroyingly bad, that I have to scramble for the TV remote everytime it appears on the TV (which is every 5 min it seems). "Ayoba Man Utd"? LOL.

Could this mean that Utd will be visiting SA in the European summer? I wouldn't be surprised.
