Can anybody help? I've been on hold to MTN for so long, I might as well put down the phone and just rely on this forum!

I currently have an MTN AnyTime750 package. Have only had it about four months or so. Before that I was with Vodacom.

Now I know why so many people use Vodacom - their service is just SO much better than MTN's! Especially when it comes to data, I've found the MTN offering very lacking indeed. Dropped calls, SMS that comes through days later, voicemail notification that always seems to wait until it is way too late to do anything about anything before it lets me know. I've had it with them...

...except I have 20 months left on my contract with them! So what I want to know is this: Can I migrate to the cheapest possible package on MTN, and then rather go back to Vodacom for a *proper* deal? Obviously I'll have to pay for both, but the cheapest AnyTime package on offer by MTN is only R50 per month, and if that's how much I need to pay for this mistake, that's fine by me. But is it possible to migrate down to a cheaper package with MTN? I know it is with Vodacom!

It won't be easy - and they also won't release your number if you downgrade - you're number will stay with them for the 24-months.

I was in the same situation - They locked my line the same day I got the phone because I was over my limit - thats when I realized I made a mistake - its been a nightmare ever since.

Fortunately I only have until end July - then I'm free of exactly what you described above - I was on hold for 40min the other day before giving up.

Some answers:

Firstly, just to explain exactly what my main problem with MTN is:

In addition to my airtime (AnyTime 750) I buy two bundles from them. One is a 1GB data bundle, and the other is for 200 SMS messages. At the beginning of the month, they take the money for the airtime (R750), PLUS the money for the two bundles (plus minus R250 odd) and add it together. Then, as the month wears on, they add the cost of the calls I make out of bundle. As soon as the total reaches R1,500, they stop my service. Not just my calls, but everything - data, SMS, the lot! And that despite the fact that I've already "paid" for my data and SMS messages. This irks me to the point where I will never ever again support MTN in any way. And then I have some good news:

I *finally* spoke to their customer service department, and was told that migrating to a cheaper package has an associated cost. The cost varies based on the package you're migrating from and the package you're migrating to. I was quoted R1,600 once-off payment to migrate from my AnyTime 750 to an AnyTime 100 - the latter costing R100 per month.

With twenty months left on my contract, this move will cost me R100 x 20 = R2,000 PLUS the migration fee of R1,600 - so R3,600 gets me out of my contract with MTN immediately! Sure, they'll still have my number, but that can't be helped - I'd much rather change my number than be stuck with them for another 20 months as a provider!

Good point- and what they did to you is EXACTLY what they did to me.

I'm actually going to call today and find out what my cancellation fee is - if I have a few months left, it can't be more than R2,000 - which I'll be glad to pay to get away from their useless services.

Very interesting to hear you guys. I was thinking of porting over to mtn because I thought the quality of the vodacom deals were terrible.

I need to more research first.

I also bought data on mtn superdata yesterdayand today i mistakenly changed my price plan to mtn pulse..when i call them they told me to migrate back to mtn superdata but still my data is not yet back
