I dont really agree with the MTN advert as they say, Pick your phone, then your package and then your extras and away you go. But the don't mention that you would need to pay in on different phones on different packages.
they make it sound so easy , almost like you can just take any phone you want on any package you want without a problem. I think its very miss leading.
Plus they then say you can choose if you want it on a top up package or not. But in reality it does not work like that coz that also carries a fee for the phones if its not on a spacial. This whole mtn campaign is miss leading.

Do they give a price on the advert ?

Do they advise you how much you will pay when you phone them and enquire ?

I fail to see the problem tbh :o

Well how can they just say pick the phone then the package and off you go. Then I must be able to go in and get a HTC diamond on a R50 top up if I want with no pay in. That's the impression that they are giving until you get to the shop and they tell you otherwise.

Yes, I understood what you're saying. But I mean, they don't put any pricing on the advert. Thus your assuption is not MTN missleading you or am I confused :o

You CAN get the phone on whatever package you choose but at a price so the advert is correct.

Choose your HTC, choose your package, choose your extras and then get given the price you need to pay!

You could just as easily say you should be able to choose the phone and the package and not have to pay as the advert does not mention paying at all...

I think Uli is just being difficult. It's obvious to anyone with common sense or a brain that you have to pay more for a more expensive phone.

Like Duh!

I reckon its is misleading ad they don't mention anything about having to pay in.
And no its not a matter of common sense. Thats how its advertised. I am not talking about the advert with the phones on it but the one advertising the new package format.
If I advertise that choose your line speed and then your modem at so many MB/p/R/month and away we go with out mentioning that you have to pay in on the modem if you take say a 384 line then that is a bit wrong is it not? Well just my opinion anyway. Coz I would say it is wrong as you think ok al I have to do is choose what ever line speed and then what ever modem and then what ever mb/p/R/Month then I am sorted.
But in reality you might have to pay in on the packages if you take a different modem.

Where do they do this?

Using your example, if they showed a 384k with a modem for that advertised price, I would automatically assume it would cost more for a 512k line....

Welcome to the world of advertising.. We hope you enjoy your stay..

this is how you advertise, successfully..

More alarming is the fact that you can keep your "old" package but they won't let you upgrade unless you switch to a new package

So much for rewarding loyal long term customers

I side with Pitbull on this one. You choose your phone, you choose the amount of airtime you want to spend per month, choose extras, then get presented with the total cost of the package.

They might as well have used the old packages with the new ad campaign: i.e. choose your phone, choose your contract type (i.e. MyCall100, Procall 120), choose your extras, then get presented with the total cost of the package.

If the adverts are truely misleading you may take it up with the Advertising Authority and they will investigate it...

IU'm dying to know why you posted your grumbling here instead of taking it to the ASA. They are pretty good at weeding out bad advertising if past decisions are anything to go by. Even though I don't agree with you - it's still utterly mind-boggling why you wouldnt have just gone to the ASA in the first place.

At which point do you get presented with the total cost. If you go into Checkers and only find out what the price is when you are at the till, would you get upset? I would.

I must agree with you.

Are we not allowed to post your own opinions here? Plus I would much rather have MTN look at it them selves than taking them to ASA.
