I have been a customer of MTN for many years; my whole family and I are on prepaid. We haven't had any serious problems with MTN, but of late especially towards the end of last year weird things have been happening.

When I joined MyBB I read all the stories of bad service and billing errors, and they were valid. There are many disgruntled MTN (or should I say ex-MTN) customers on MyBB.

I try my best not to badmouth anybody but their service is definitely going downhill. Last year I received 2 sms's from two contacts in my phonebook. Let's say person A with 083*** and person B with 079***; when I read the sms from 083***, it was actually from person B and the sms from 079*** was from person A. I thought I was going crazy but the problem actually persists. Even when I receive calls from them, the same thing happens. Person's A cellphone number registers as 079*** and person's B cellphone registers as 083***.

Now on 11 January another problem crops up. Again with mixed signals. When my mother calls my brother, my cellphone rings and now it's happening almost on a daily basis. And today my brother tried calling his own cellphone (he was checking to see if the office telephone at work was working), but instead of the call reaching his cellphone my cellphone rings again, of course!

Maybe something happened last year when MTN converted/migrated my contract to prepaid. I have considered porting but I'm afraid MTN will bugger up the process?! It's frustrating!
