MTN porting dep clueless!

After 16 years plus as vodacom contract customer I moved to mtn.
(just so I can use cheaper afrihost mobile data package on my mobile phone)

I asked about number porting and mtn said it can be done.

Filled out porting application and submitted it and not 5 days later, still not porting done.

Customer service cannot give me porting dept contact numbers.

I only have one email address and all I get is promises that it will happen tonight.

All I have for several phone calls and emails and complaints are 2 ref numbers, and
no way to get any live update status on the ref number.

1st ref was for porting request: REQ:4281165
2nd ref was a complaint sent to mtn: REQ:4303628

And thats it. No other communication from mtn and nothing I can do
with the ref numbers.

I suppose mtn expecting me to pay my monthly contract fee, even though the
contract is useless to me without my ported number.

Does anyone here knows someone high up at mtn that can help with this?

No seriously...wanted to port away from them due to crap service - took me a solid hour of sitting in an MTN store (waiting in line) and then its my turn and the oke tells me he is going for lunch.

I'll rather pay vodacom's (imo) higher charges...

Rather join Telkom Mobile and get to use MTN's network, without having to deal with MTN.

Pure win. ;)

I've been with MTN for years and had a similar experience when trying to do a SIM swap at their main PE office (Cape Rd), gave up and went to Walker Drive (agency?) instead where they sorted me out quickly.

Post on their twitter and Facebook and you'll see how quickly they react.

Went back to Vodacom instead...they're marginally better than MTN at most things in my experience.

Their 200MB SmartS data bundles? :p
Actually...no idea wtf I'm on. The switch drastically reduced the number of dropped calls & no-signal I got though so I'm OK with it regardless of details. (Honestly MTN...major Gauteng business park...and no signal...useless)

Your title is misleading...

I ported from Vodacom to Telkom this week. 24 hours and my number is ported and I'm up and running.

Is your VC contract fully paid up, and changed to VC prepaid before doing that?

yes, VC contract paid up. Was on month to month for 2 months then changed to prepaid, then applied for porting to mtn
to use afrihost data package on smart phone

bad first time experience with mtn. useless customer support.
