I've just spoken with MTN's brightest and they've informed me there is absolutely no way they can inform me when my bundle expires and I start paying OOB rates. I must monitor my own usage and it's not their problem.

Their solution was to set my call limit to R0 so that I can't make calls either if my data expires, of course this now eats into my Rand value.

However, my wife, on the exact same contract, received a message indicating her bundle had expired. She could not use data but could continue to make phones calls.

MTN insists I'm wrong and must send them a screenshot of this message to prove it!

Anybody know what is to be done here.

They also told me its not possible. CellC can do it, but MTN cannot, bloody pathetic if you ask me.

So pay your R2.00/MB OOB shark and suck it up. Except my wife got a notification! Seriously, wtf?

Are you sure your wife isn't on telkom Mobile?

AFAIK only they do that.

FYI this is the SMS MTN tells me definitely does not exist.

I'm not going to let this slide. The OOB shark is circling and MTN need to catch a wake up.

Ok, I've managed to convince them this does exist and that it has nothing to do with call amount limits.

Ok, so they accepted this issue, realised they don't know what they're talking about, submitted to "Networking" and I've heard nothing since.

Fscking typical, this is why I used Nashua Mobile all those years. Unfortunately now I'm at the mercy of MTNs incompetence.

Banner time, anyone?

3 month and nothing has happened. All the call centre can tell me is that it's still pending. They won't escalate it, they won't even find out if the network department has bothered.

Absolutely disgusting service from MTN, who I was forced to join.

Fortunately in 3 months I get to vote with my feet when my contract expires and move to Vodacom - after 16 years.

Just use your phone to set data limits and warnings.

Yes, yes I know how to do that, I also know to dial *141*1# - however, that doesn't solve the problem that MTN has a service, they supply that service, yet are incapable of knowing how that could even happen though it happened. In addition they don't communicate, their customer services isn't up to scratch and they couldn't be bothered if it's "too hard".

All this so they can get their cash via OOB rates. So no, I won't just give up on this crusade because these companies need to learn they can't do what the hell they feel like.

Ok, so after months of fighting I finally got a response.

MTN's answer is that they must have done it wrong on my wife's contract and they won't do it on Anytime contracts. The alternative is a Rand limit, which also cuts me off from phone calls, but only after using all of my Rand value... Except you have an can do, I've demonstrated, you are just refusing to do so.

Essentially: you're on a contract and we won't tell you when you've gone OOB. This is theft plain, and simple.

To my great surprise the same incompetent company sent me a message informing me my contract would be ending in 2 months. Guess who won't be getting repeat business.

Just advise them, IN WRITING, 30 days before expiry that you are terminating the agreement otherwise it will continue until such time as you do advise them. (I had this experience with my son)

It will be a number port, so I'll have little choice but to inform them.

I gave Telkom Mobile 30 days, got a copy of that, called to check, went back to the store to check. Everyone assured me the contact would be cancelled, and guess what? I fought for 6 months despite proof of cancellation!
