MTN recently installed in our complex. We currently have 2 options to sign up.

1 is via MTN which allows for month to month, and you but the data separately. Other is via Smartvillage , which is a 12 months contract.

I am keen on the MTN option, even though there is an installation charge, as long as it offers open access so I can buy my data elsewhere. They say they are negotiating with providers to provide open access

On searching the internet, I was unable to find any resellers for MTN fibre anywhere, even though they have been promising this since 2015, and there was a ruling by competition commission when they bought smartvillage to allow open access (2016)

Are they just bsing us on this?

They were supposed to go open access at the beginning of this month. But there hasn't been any news. I emailed them over a week ago to ask about it and was told they'd forward my email to someone who can give me more information, but I still haven't received any news. I would suggest signing up for a month to month package and then hopefully in a month or two they'll actually become open access.

We now have pricing and a coverage map from MTN, just waiting on feedback on how to actually place orders etc. So progress at least.

It's been over a month since the announcement and nothing happened. Vodacom also delayed till 2018 (they have been promising open access for over 2 years now).

MTN boasted in public about how they are going to be the masters of open access in 2015. It took them 2 years + just to finalise that decision within MTN and move forward a teensy weensy bit. Now they are negotiating)dealing with third parties....how long is that going to take?
