Had a contract with Italk with 3 months to expiry.

Wanted to port to MTN , spoke to a dealer here to follow this procedure through.

3 weeks later , porting incorrectly done despite explicit instructions and failure to reverse the port.

Spoken to numerous consultants on 0831237667 and the like.Where are all this recorded conversations because no-one seems to remember what they say.

I am sick and tired of getting the run-a-round with this K@K service.

Hi Fismail.

Pls check your PM.

All personal details removed... I think it would be best to post the responses on here for future reference pls advise if that's fine with you.

Hope I'm not intruding (is public forum after all) but I am interested in this as I have also put in a porting request which is going to happen when I get my handset (3rd week of Jan), so.... this is why I am interested
I do not want to experience any of the problems that some of the users on this forum have had.

That would just p1ss me off.

Let me put it to you this way.

If you sign a "Porting request" your request get's processed about instandly trying to cancel the request and it fails... you could be in it quite deep. Make sure about your request before signing the papers. Once it has gone thru it takes months before it can be changed back.

that is incorrect.
the party that you are porting from must ok the port ( ie Italk has to give MTN permission to allow the port )
in my case Italk never had permission to allow the port since I did not agree with the penalty that Italk wanted me to pay which was totally ridiculous with 3 months remaining on a MyCall 100 ( penalty is R4000 )

I thing I just need to point out. If Your request for a port is received, do " Donor" Network has no say. They don't have to approve your request you allready gave permission for the Port. I just wish the dealers from all SP's and network providers would advise client's the pro's and con's before doing a porting request.

According to an internal Vodacom training manual donor network MUST ok the port.

Nope. Manual is wrong.

E.g.: Let’s say you owe network A money for what ever reason....

Now you want to move to network B... the port cannot be refused. Doesn't matter how hard Network A tries to keep you specials or WHY... (Reason for the 2 - 3 months change period)

You "own" the number and it's your choice where you want to have it used in a manner of speaking. The rules have been put out not by any network but by the Governing body. Unfortunately some people will fall in the cracks like you, because of these rules but then again the rules also prevent the majority from being exploited. Any rule in the world can't accommodate everyone.

With me saying that, Like I mentioned to you earlier.... If this was done in complete error from any side... We MTNSP would gladly cover the R 4000.00. However once the porting request has been signed it out of our hands.

*bull******

the porting rule states ...

"your current sp must say yes or no within 1 hour of you asking to port your number"

what then if you have bad debt with the present provider , surely they will not let you migrate to another network without 1st paying them out , it would be then very convenient to port every 2 months to a new network / sp and take a phone and run up a huge bill.

in my case i instructed Italk to cancel the port based on the fact that the penalty was not acceptable ...
Italk told me to contact MTN to cancel the port ...
MTN for whatever reason on that day experienced high call volumes on their port helpdesk , but yet no mention is made to me that these recordings are being investigated for evidence ( which will prove my "innocence" in this matter )
at no time when i contacted MTN was i advised that the port was active , the information that you supplied me re time of port being active is the 1st i have heard of since no-one at MTN could give me a time that the port went live on their network and i've made countless calls to the port helpdesk.

You're unfortunately stuck between a rock and a Hard place. Pls bear in mind, we don't make the rules but abide by them.

Your problem is unfortunately not due to any error from MTN or Italk, but to be honest, your own.

I know it sounds Harsh and pls don't get me wrong I say this with the greatest of respect.

The fact is you have signed the porting request, you requested a Port to be done. And according to Government there is no way to reverse this even if we wanted to. I know this is not the answer you’re looking for but unfortunately I'm the one that has to tell you the truth.

Sounds indeed like a predicament.

I must say I have also seen on the MNP brochures in the MTN service centre outside of Century City where they indicate the current NP must give their ok before the new NP will go ahead with the port. This is to prevent any problems from arising and also ensuring any monies owed are paid or decided on what to do.

Basically, as I understood it, the current NP will NOT ok the port request if monies are outstanding, meaning you don't even get asked on whether you will settle the money during the port process, the answer is simply no and then you must deal directly with the current NP to pay oustanding monies.
Then another port request will take place to see if the process will go further.

I think I have the pamphlet at home, will try and get it again.
