I am trying to help a lady in the office who asked me to check why her phone "uses" her airtime so quickly.
I check the phone and see her data usage is on about 60mb for the month.
She apparently only loads normal airtime vouchers.

I phoned an MTN store to find out what the pre paid data rate would be and she guessed(?) it will be R2.50/MB?
I was also told to phone *141*2# to find out, which I did, but it is just a menu with an advert to purchase 1GB @ R89 which is valid for two weeks.

So how do I check what the prepaid airtime data rate is?
If she does buy a data voucher, how long will it be valid for?

Hi Kolaval, prepaid data lasts 2 months - date to date. So if you load data on 17th May it expires 17th July.

My advice is to load a little as possible - I've been loading R35 and when that expires add some more. I used to load R500 at a time but that was when data didn't expire.

Most users have access to wifi anyway so data is only for occasional use.

Never, ever use airtime for data, it's horrendously expensive. I thought it was around R2:00 per meg but wouldn't argue with Dr Data. He knows more than I do.

Its R2/MB

Dial *141*2# and you will see an advert, reply with 1 to get the menu.
