MTN Prepaid Coverage Problem

I have a strange problem here. My child's nanny has a MYN prepaid SIM card. When she is in the house and surrounding areas, when she makes or receives a call, she can't hear the person on the other side and the person on the side can't hear her. However when she is about 1km away, she can receive and make calls without a problem. She then got a 2nd prepaid SIM and it has the exact same problem.

I have a MTN contract and I am not having any problems. I have called both the normal and coverage helpdesk and they don't seem to be able to help me.
 
So your MTN contract sim works 100% in the phone?

Weird - not sure if it will help but maybe try loading the latest firmware or a factory reset.
 
Yeah the MTN contract works no problem. The two prepaid SIMs don't. The same happens on two other different make phones.
 
Well MTN should favour their contract subscribers more than there pre-paid, they call it a contract benefit. They are obligated with a paper trail to give you service, for pre-paid they could always blow a complaint off with a "it was a technical malfunction" reply or something of the likes. But I dont know really.

What is the difference in the sim cards, 16K 32K 64K? Some sim cards are newer than others and so are manufactured to perform better according to new designs and technology, perhaps this has an effect?
