MTN Prepaid LTE sim and iPhone 6

I purchased a PayAsYouGo LTE nano sim for my new iPhone 6
It's been more than 30 hours since I put it in the phone and
went onto the network.

But I still don't get an LTE indication.
I am in a covered area in Midlands Estate in Midstream.
I looked on MTN's site and they don't list iPhone 6 as a
compatible device.

Could this be the issue?

Did you phone 173 and ask them to activate the LTE service on your line? MTN does not automatically activate LTE even if you have a LTE sim. 173 needs to manually activate it.

It does take a while to auto activate sometimes, might take up to a week. This has nothing to do with the device. Be patient and after a week, restart your phone. But usually u will get an sms first.

It auto activates when it detects that you have an LTE device, the standard time is 24 hrs but can take up to a week, as was in my case. I did not have to call 173.

Ah thanks! Clarifies a lot. I also read somewhere that it will auto activate, but wasn't sure.
My problem is I cannot dial 173 as I have hearing problem. :S

Another question:

What is displayed in the status bar of the iPhone if the LTE signal is active?

LTE or 4G?

You can also contact them on their Facebook page and ask them to activate it for you.

Otherwise log into the MTN Active portal and try activate it there.

On MTN it shows LTE. 4G is used on other carriers like AT&T, same thing but they call it 4G.

Hi There

I got your PM and activated LTE on your number, please restart and test now.

Thanks

Thanks, unfortunately according to the coverage map I am gonna be stuck the whole day in a non covered area here at the office.

But I see that my home as well as the N1 route towards home is covered, so should be able to check it out later.

I will report back.

Thank you Dr_Data!
I got my first LTE signal today after your help!
Seems the MTN consultants in store are not as qualified as you.
You earned a Bells!

Great stuff, enjoy the speeds :)

The speed is fascinating, provided the signal is good.
In Midrand on the N1 I once tested 37Mbps down and 19Mbps up.

Unfortunately where I live, the signal is bad. Don't even get LTE icon to show on the phone, and if I do, the speed is worse than the 3G.
It does show coverage on the map, but I am close to the range of that coverage.

How do we know if MTN will improve coverage in certain areas?

Hi

If you send me the area I can check if there are any plans at the moment to optimize LTE in that area.

Thanks
